Please pass the anti-freeze 01 June 2005

This weekend was Tep-tastic. It was Crusher & Cat's wedding, and lots of the gang came in from outta town. Crusher is a Tep and Cat is his honey; he is a professor or something at MIT; not sure what she does. They are nice liberal do-gooder types - on the wedding site they actually asked that people not buy them presents - instead donate that money to charity. Right on! I love anti-materialistic people! On Friday the married people to be were doing some volunteer work and some of the wedding people went. I couldn't go because I was stuck at my stupid job. Bill played hookie and had fun with Perlick. I'm sad. Very sad to be left out.

Anyway. So Friday night was the "bachelor party" in which everyone went bowling. I didn't go - instead I chose to stay home and get drunk on gin until the wee hours of the morning - but Bill and Perlick went and had fun.

Saturday Bill and I went over to T-Stop & Jessie's house in Somerville where we enjoyed one of T-Stops fine home brews on the porch while Perlick sprawled on the hammock and we ooooh'd and ahhhh'd over Indy's fantabulous new pink bike. The we picked up Leper and Liz in Harvard Square and headed to the rehersal dinner at Grasshopper, a well-regarded vegan restaurant in Allston. This was an, um, intersting experience. They brought out plate after plate after plate of dishes with tofu, soy-stuff and gluten in place of meat. This is all OK enough, but the thing that bothered me is it was all simulated meat - you know, one dish that was "pork", another that was "beef" and another that had simulated shrimp, squid AND crab in it. Mmmmm mmmmm!

For those who do not know, I do not eat meat - not for health or ethical reasons, but rather because I hate the taste of the stuff. (luckily, Probe & Rebecca were visiting from LA. Becca ALSO hates the taste of meat, so we were able to bond over that. That was nice.) So, eating a bunch of meat-tasting items that weren't meat was not an improvement to me. And, it gets me ranting about vegetarians and this whole fake meat thing - guys, if you miss meat that much JUST FUCKING EAT MEAT! I mean really, it's like a recovering alcoholic drinking O'Douls or an ex-smoker who hangs out in bars to get a fix off the second hand smoke. It makes your sacrifice not much of a victory.

Anyway - it was still fun to have gone there, I'm glad we tried it. Aside from Probe & Becca, Perlick was in town from SF (as mentioned above), and I (finally) got to meet Leper and Liz who were in town from Ohio. Bats was also in town from Canada, but was at a different wedding Saturday night. It was so nice to see everyone again. We also discussed names for the Mando (mando = condo in a mansion, the lovely place Sweetie and I are shaking up in, and a phrase I coined). Oh! I am so happy, I heard lots of people using the phrase "mando" in casual conversation. Yay! Right so I was thinking "Giblet Run" might be a good name. Keeps with the poultry theme "The Roost" (Bill's current apt), but kinda ties into that whole Martha Stewart "Turkey Hill" thing. I like it.

After we got back home in Cambridge, I was SO hungry since I didn't eat much of anything at dinner so Sweet Cute Bill went out and got my moo shi chicken from Davis Square at 11:30 at night. If that's not wuv, I don't know what is.

Sunday morning the wedding people had brunch, but we were too lazy to get up. But, from what I hear they totally made up for the previous night's vegan experience with LOTS of bacon and sausage at brunch. Mmmm sounds nice!

Kohta & Perlick came back from brunch with scads of people - U5 and Rebecca (and I think the kids), Auntee Jean (did I spell that right Jean?), Leper & Liz, Probe & Becca... All in Bill's 1200 sq/ft apt. It was crazy fun! We hung out on the deck drinking coffee and eating our organic buckwheat pancakes. The weather finally broke, and it was warm and sunny. It was one of those perfect moments in life you never want to end.

The wedding was at 5:30 on Sunday at Stonehurst in Waltham. What a gorgeous old estate. The wedding was beautiful, the vows were really really sweet. Everyone was sniffly. The food was great! They had it catered by a local organic farm that employs inner-city kids (remember the do gooder stuff mentioned above?). We danced and hung out, it was mega fun. I've never really known Crusher - I think I met him once or twice. They're really super-nice people and oh my god they do SO much good work for mankind. They're over the top; normally people like that make you feel bad about yourself, but not them - they actually just inspire me to try harder and do more.

Monday we hung out and had more coffee on the deck with Bats and Jean. Another perfect moment. We went over to U5 and Rebecca's place in Hopkinton for a laid back BBQ. Awesome day. Oh it was funny - I was hanging out in the living room chatting with Rebecca (who's WAY cool btw) and Jean or someone moved the ottoman in front of me and eek! There was a dead mouse under it. So I'm a little shocked and pointing. Rebecca and Jean immediately turn around and start praising the cat, "Good kitty. Goooooooooooood kitty. You're suuuuuuuuch a gooooood girl." Isn't that awesome? I love people who are so non-conventional. Yay!

After dinner we beat the shit out of a pinata (wearing a fuzzy pink cape).

And that was how I spent my weekend.

Oh - the subject of this post. Yeah, I was feeling frustrated at work the other day and remarked to a cow-orker, "Do you ever have one of those days when you just feel like drinking poison to put you out of your misery? Please pass the anti-freeze."
