Ding Dong the Fridge is Dead! 28 August 2005

Note: I am working on my blogger template, so the archives are all sorts of screwed up. I hope to have this fixed in the upcoming days.

Ding dong the firdge is dead, the crappy fridge, the crappy fridge, Ding Dong the crappy fridge is dead!

Hurrah! Today our sexy new Amana fridge finally showed up. We went with the ABB222Z model - not our first choice (that one wasn't available for a couple of more weeks), but it's a good fridge. Coincidentally, Consumer Reports also rates it a "best buy." So there.

To remind you, here's the aweful old fridge:

It's a Frigidair circa 1986. The gasket seal thingies are hanging off on the corners (yay - air conditioning!) and it smells like ROTTING MEAT. Really. We decided to get a new fridge right away (I don't want to eat food that's been absorbing rotting meat bacteria and odor), so we have literally been buying no food - and we've been eating out every meal.

Today the thing FINALLY got hauled away and our shiny new stainless steel freezer on the bottom Energy Star certified Amana was wheeled in.

We decided to hang the door on the other side, so even before we turned the thing on Bill was taking it apart...

At my feet - right where I like ALL my men:

Yay! I got to do some of the screws - I helped!

"Hellooooo?" (the only bad thing about the fridge are the super cheesy handles)

Yeah baby - all put together! Isnit purty?

Oooooooh yeah - 488 kwh/year. Oooooooh yeah. (this one is for Batsy)

After letting the fridge outgas for a few hours, we FINALLY got to go to Shaw's and buy lots and lots of fresh yummy organic food (oh, and gin - have to have the gin)

Bill is excited about the new fridge:

We decided against the model that had the built-in water dispenser, so instead we got a Culgin under the sink filter thingie. It tastes very different than the Poland Spring I have become accustomed to - the filtered water is flat in comparison, but it is very clean and I am getting used to it. So far we are really happy with it and would recommend.

In other news, we are continuing to find out what a dumb-ass the previous owner was. One of the front bedrooms has brand new floors in it. Why? Turns out Dumb-Ass Previous Owner (DAPO for short) decided to save a few dollars and shut the heat off in that bedroom last winter and froze a major pipe which burst and caused a HUGE amount of damage. So, the condo association's insurance doubled which is why the common charges suddenly jumped about $100/month earlier this year. So they screw everyone over and then move out. Nice.

Oh, had a fun finding with the dishwasher today. I ran the dishes this morning, and then emptied them tonight. The bottom rack was fine, but I had some bowls on the top rack. When I took them out, they had spots of black mold on them (!). Mold?? In just 12 hours???? Eeeeeeew. So I am thinking something is not real good with this dishwasher either... *sigh* I think we may have to buy yet another large expensive thing. I think Christmas will be slim this year huh?

Off to bed. Send money and presents.
