Settling in... 22 August 2005

Well, we're settling in here at the new place. We moved last Sunday (8/14). My apartment is packed, cleaned and DONE - the new person has already started moving in. Bill's apartment is mostly done, but there is still a lot of stuff left, and then it needs to be cleaned. I cried endlessly after leaving my apartment, but I think now that I have the new place mostly set-up I am over it now. I hope. I'm exhausted.

So the new place. Yeah, so we moved in and as we are settling in are discovering little things here and there that the rat bastard sellers lied about. The water heater was leaking so we had to replace that right away. They said on the seller's disclosure it was a 60 gallon hot water heater, but in reality it was a 30 gallon. This is rather minor, and I am willing to believe it was an honest mistake but...

... We had our first condo meeting and the association is taking out a very large loan to do some MUCH needed repairs on the place. That's fine, old houses need a lot of maintenance - we get that. Thing is, rat bastard sellers totally LIED about it. They wrote on the seller's disclosure that no, there were no known upcoming major expenses or assessments. WRONG. They totally knew about this, and they LIED about it and now it is going to cost us many thousands of dollars. Ugh. Soooo annoying, needless to say I am very angry about this. But, my father is a real estate attorney and I have a call into him about it so hopefully this can get resolved quickly and easily.

Oh, we also had to go out and buy a new fridge right away too - the gaskets are broken on this one so it is leaking air like crazy, and the inside smells like rotting meat. We knew the fridge was old and crappy, but we were hoping to not replace it for a while as a lot of money is going out right now. Oh well.

Hey it will be nice to have a new fridge! We are getting a totally sexy stainless steel bottom freezer Amana. It's wicked nice, and it seals the deal for me to get stainless steel appliances for the rest of the kitchen. ;)

But all in all the new place is coming together nicely and it is starting to feel more like home. The rooms are GINORMOUS (read Batsie's blog about it), but I have the living room arranged so it's a multi-purpose room and this makes it feel cozier instead of big and formal and voluminous which was wierding me out.

For now we aren't moving into the sunroom, 3rd bedroom or family room as we need to do work in those rooms. That's fine, this place has 2850 sqft, so we don't need to live in all the rooms.

The master bedroom is painted this ugly pink/peach color. I commented it was a pastel salmon, and Bill took it further - salmonella. And yes, that is what it is - the color of undercooked chicken. Eeeeewwwwwwww. So now I can't be in the bedroom without wanting to do shots of tequilla to insure my intestinal health so I am working on picking out a new paint color. Right now I am in the khaki range, but I may swing to a grayish-brown.

The master bath is truely horrible - the sink, toilet and tub are all Band-Aid™ color, the walls white and this shitty nasty oak trim everywhere (like towel rods and window ledges and stuff). We bought some pretty chrome towel rods to use for the time being, and I am going to paint the walls some sort of light blue - probably a hue with a bit of green, like beachglass, and paint the shitty nasty oak white. I think that will make the ugly nasty bathroom at least livable until we are renovate it. So I am looking for paint for that too.

After unpacking our first priority will be to get the laundry out of the basement and move it to the 3rd bathroom in the back of the house. I have a wicked sexy front-loading Kenmore set picked out. Stay tuned.

OK, I have to get dinner from La Festa now. Oh! Crescent City Bistro and Dos Amigos also in downtown Dover are totally yummy!
