Stuff All About Me
I'm a 31 year old undergrad. A year ago I quit my soul-destroying job at a design studio and went back to school to pursue a degree in nutritional sciences. Now that I no longer spend my days creating websites to sell vinyl-sided condos to rich people, I find myself feeling like a new person. Everyday brings new happiness, my body no longer hurts from sitting infront of a computer everyday, and I find great satisfaction and pride in my school work. In the 3 years I spent at that design studio, I never once completed a project that I was proud of. Do you know what that feels like? To spend every day in physical pain because of your job, and not even proudof anything you're doing? Soul destroying.
So school is great. I'm happy, I'm proud and I feel good. I live in Dover, NH with my boyfriend Bill who really truely is the most wonderful thing to ever happen to me. And I make sure to tell him that every day. We live in a big old Victorian mansion and have 4 cats. Life really couldn't be better. Oh, well, a new kitchen and bathroom would make it better. But then it really couldn't be any better.
I love food, and I have a great respect for nature - how a species is designed, how bodies work, how ecosystems fit together. I see the earth as one big, giant self-sufficient organism. However, it runs on a delicate balance and we humans are fucking up the entire thing. From this comes my environmental concerns, and true hatred for allopathic medicine. This is a big reason why I am studying nutrition. I hope to go to medical school when I am done at UNH so I can have a real influence on people's lives and health, and help to break them out of the destructive allopath regime.
I used to live for my television, but these days school keeps me busy so I don't watch much. I like Northern Exposure, The Apprentice and The Sopranos. While on the treadmill I love watched Passions and reruns of Friends and The Golden Girls.
My musical tastes really run the gammut... I love Susan Tedeschi and a lot of blues music. Nine Inch Nails is another favorite - their latest album, With Teeth, is astoundingly fantastic. Rachael Yamagata's album Happenstance is amazing. Gwen Stefani and No Doubt are favorites when exercising - nothing makes me want to get up and move like Gwenie Gwen Gwen. This week I have suddenly gotten into U2; I don't know why it took me 20 years but I finally listened to Joshua Tree and it's incredible. Timeless.
OK, that's all for now. I have to complete a research paper today, my final honors chemistry lab report tomorrow and then a food & society paper this weekend. Then it's time for finals!
