From Martha's Kitchen Menu
Client: Self, Plaistow NH
Project: Design a menu
This was a school project that I did that I am still quite fond of. We were to design a menu for a restaurant of our choice. I designed a menu for the fictional restaurant called From Martha's Kitchen. I made this project more challenging for myself by making it adhere to Martha Stewart's existing brand - I used the same type faces as found in her other collateral as well as other common elements such as the "letter from Martha" on the back cover - a feature that is found in every issue of her magazine Living - and real-life elements incorporated in the design like the fresh herbs and vegetables, and dishtowel. I wanted to create something real looking - something you just want to pick up and touch because when I read her magazine that's what I want to do. I just want to hold it. The menu items themselves came from Rick's Cafe and Grill, an excellent restaurant in Kingston, NH.
I had a great deal of fun with this project as I went through my kitchen and local grocery store looking for items I could scan. Yes, I actually laid the asparagus on my scanner and scanned it as is. The herbs were from my garden. I used Adobe Photoshop, InDesign and Acrobat to create this piece.
