Roses and Thorns

Project: Typography Exercise
This was a project I did in Lance Hidy's graphic design class that I have always loved. The assignment was to lay out a saying using only typography and color.
I just love the symmetry and asymmetry of this phrase - notice the words are paired up because they are repeated in the same rhythm of the phrase, yet they are antonyms. Specifically, complain/rejoice and roses/thorns. While these pairs are aligned and sharing the same type face (symmetry) they are opposite colors (asymmetry). This piece was done with gouache on bristol.
